Police arrested a man after they seized a high-powered air rifle, drugs, a crossbow and fireworks.

Officers raided the man's home at Highbridge Quay, Highbridge, after receiving reports that a person had been threatened with a knife, a woman had been head-butted and shots had been fired from a flat.

A 40-year-old man, who is known as Steven Wood but was held in the name of Steven Cage, has been charged with a firearms offence.

Sergeant Ian Kennett, of Burnham police, said the man has now been recalled to prison.

Sgt Kennett said: "This is the latest in a series of arrests for drugs related criminal behaviour in Highbridge.

"We have been working closely with the community to tackle drugs issues in Highbridge, which has been the focus of our PACT activity this year.

"The public have voiced their concern and I am pleased to say that their neighbourhood beat team has responded positively and there is a noticeable improvement in the quality of life for local residents.

"I would like to thank the community for their continued support and would ask for people to keep on reporting drug dealing and other suspicious activity in their area."
