A large part of Bristol's Castle Park was sealed off with police tape after a teenager reported that she was attacked there.

The 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the park near Broadmead and Cabot Circus at 9pm on Tuesday night.

Police sealed off the entrances to the park until the area could be searched for potential evidence.

Officers have appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.

Anyone with information can call police on 0845 4567000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

A road next to Castle Park was partially blocked in an unrelated incident yesterday when the door of an industrial waste skip blew open, causing a car crash.

The incident happened at about 1pm when a blue Ford Focus, driving down Broad Weir, crashed into the skip which was on the back of a lorry.

The skip, owned by Viridor waste management, was collecting refuse from building work near Cabot Circus Tower.

A builder working on site saw the incident but wanted to remain anonymous.

He said: "I think it was the wind that caused the door to swing open and the car just went into it. It could have happened to anyone.

" I don't think the driver was to blame. It looked like a young woman and her mum in the car but I'm not sure.

"Maybe it wouldn't have happened if the skip was on the pavement rather than the road."

Workers from Viridor on the scene at the time did not want to comment.

Steve Game, press officer for Avon and Somerset police, said: "According to the incident log the driver was taken to hospital. Traffic was flowing again by 2.45pm."

“I'm just wondering if there is any reason why it was felt appropriate to combine a story of a young girl being sexually assaulted with an unrelated story about a skip/car accident?

This is the most random piece of journalism I have seen for a good while.”
