A ST GEORGE man has told a court he is "deeply ashamed" after being caught kerb crawling in Eastville.

Timothy Pennington, 42, of Beaconsfield Road, pleaded guilty to soliciting another for the purpose of obtaining their sexual services as a prostitute in a public place.

Bristol magistrates yesterday fined him £150 plus court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.

Laura Opie, prosecuting, said a known prostitute was loitering on a junction of Fishponds Road and Pennington, in his Renault car, seemed to be paying her close attention.

Mrs Opie said police later spotted the car parked in a "dark corner" and found Pennington in the driver's seat with the woman lying across him.

"He said he picked up the sex worker because he recognised her from a local pub. In the vehicle he realised she was a sex worker.

"He realised what she was offering and the sexual act took place."

Pennington told the bench: "I use the area, I meet people and I thought it was someone from the weekend. I'm deeply ashamed of my actions."
