A police spokeswoman said the call was classed as a "high priority blue light response". She said the car was passing stationary traffic in Upper Maudlin Street when it was in a "slow speed impact" with a Land Rover Freelander turning into the entrance of the BRI.
The occupants of both cars were treated for minor injuries.
The spokeswoman said the officers' suspension was automatic while the incident is investigated.
The vulnerable woman was later said to be safe and well.
