Police appeal for witnesses to serious crash on M5 near Clevedon
POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a serious crash on the M5 at Clevedon at the weekend. Officers are keen to speak to motorists who may have witnessed events leading up to the crash on the afternoon of January 12. They want to hear from anyone who may have seen a red Ford Escort that was being driven erratically southbound between junctions 19 at Portishead and junction 21 just after Clevedon. Witnesses have told police that the Escort was seen to undertake other vehicles and switch lanes to weave through the traffic. It was then involved in a collision with a car and ended up on its roof. The driver, a man in his early 60s and his teenage female passenger were not seriously injured, but the incident closed the motorway for more than an hour. Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the Escort before the collision and particularly want to speak to people in a red or maroon Peugeot 306 estate that was driving just ahead of the Escort before it crashed. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit at Almondsbury on 101.
