Didcot Town 0 Paulton Rovers 2

Paulton Rovers manager Andy Jones returned from a week's holiday in Dubai to take charge of his side, who went through to the third round of the FA Cup with a well-deserved victory over Didcot Town, which brought them a pay-out of £4,500.

Alex Ball came back into the starting line-up, while Kyle Phillips – who has been out of the side since the opening game of the season against Cirencester Town – returned in goal.

"I was pleased with our performance against a very good side and it was pleasing that we kept a clean sheet for the third successive game," Jones said.

Paulton took a 20th-minute lead when striker Neikell Plummer held off a couple of defenders in a run from midfield to find Dan Cleverley, whose through-ball set up Josh Jeffries to beat the Didcot offside trap and the advancing keeper

Striker Mark Draycott wasted a chance for Didcot when he blazed over the bar and then Paulton keeper Phillips made a good save to deny Liam Hope, as the home side went in search of an equaliser.

The Paulton defence came under heavy pressure at the start of the second half and it needed a goal-line clearance from central defender Ollie Price to keep out a certain equaliser from the dangerous Draycott.

Ten minutes into the second half, Paulton made it 2-0 when Didcot defender Alex Stanley handled the ball and Charlie Rich's free-kick into the penalty area was volleyed in by Plummer.

The Paulton defence survived heavy Didcot pressure to get back into the game, and it was the visitors who went closest to scoring when Chris Lane went clear of the defence, but saw his lob just clear the upright.
