This is Bristol

Bristol has been home to an ever-growing association of softball since 1989. We met the Bristol Softball Association President to find out more about the sport.

President Neil Butterfield has been playing since 1989 and is passionate about the sport. He said: "Bristol Softball provides it all: a full season of fixtures across three divisions, three nights a week from May to September; top class tournaments attracting local, national and international teams and recreational tournaments devoted to teams who just want to have fun. Come and join us… everybody does!"

The Bristol Softball Association is made up of 24 teams, with over 500 players of all abilities, from beginners to GB squad members.

Neil Butterfield said: "We have stunning, purpose-built grounds in picturesque surroundings that are family friendly. The Bristol Softball Association is the Godfather of softball in Bristol. Fifteen years of experience has honed the league into one that gets its priorities right: play sport, keep fit, have fun and socialise."

"With three divisions playing on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night respectively, we have teams to suit all abilities and we are also happy to assist and encourage you to establish your own new team."

Softball is unique in that it can be played by anyone, regardless of fitness or experience. In the late 90s, softball achieved the status of the fastest growing sport in the UK and it is the only sport in which men and woman play at an equal level, from the grass roots to the international squad. The best part is that it accommodates all those men and women who want to do some physical activity in a sociable and fun environment.
