IMPROMPTU games of ping pong are set to bring a feeling of Olympic summer to the city.

Forty-six table tennis tables have sprung up at locations all over Bristol from today, in a project aimed at encouraging public participation.

Anyone of any age or ability can take part in Ping! Bristol.

To join in the fun, would-be ping-pong players simply borrow a bat and ball from the side of the table, from a Ping! Bristol volunteer, or can bring their own.

Backed by National Lottery funding from Sport England, the project is produced in association with the city council, which has organised a programme of ping-pong events and activities.

It launches with a ping-pong bonanza today from noon to 6pm at Anchor Square.

There will be table tennis show matches, dressing-up fun and prizes.
