The Bristol Post

LAST July/August 2011, I was taught how to get out and about on my own as I have sight loss and my confidence was rather low. But thanks to the rehabilitation team at the RNIB/Action I now have quite a lot of confidence coming back slowly but surely.

It is not all down to the rehab team, but to the wider members of the public in general, including bus and taxi drivers who have been so patient, kind and understanding without being patronising.

How rich my world is in having so many other friends too. While waiting at bus stops it is truly heart warming how many total strangers offer their help and guidance.

Personally, I put a lot of the responses I receive down to my approach to these hitherto strangers.

I try to maintain a positive manner both at home and when I am out and about. Also, I find it easy and more pleasant when I speak with these good folk in a polite and respectful way.

Finding that when I give out in politeness I get back sometimes a million times over.

In closing, I wish to offer my most sincere thanks to all those who have been there for me and I look forward to making and meeting many more friends in the days, weeks, months and, yes, years ahead.

Keep up the good name of the Bristol community whoever you are.

I am very proud of our great city and its heritage. Let us keep it that way please.

My grateful thanks.
