People ill-advised over town green
IT was reported in The Post that the Lake Grounds Residents Association have applied to North Somerset Council to register the Lake Grounds as a town green.
This area is a public park and recreation area, owned by North Somerset Council so there will be no problem in finding people who have used it for "lawful sports and pastimes" for 20 years.

The Lake Grounds in Portishead
The applicants would appear to have been ill-advised in this matter. If it were to succeed then all public recreations areas by default become town greens, and I doubt that is a true interpretation or intention of the legislation.

“There has been a disgraceful episode of inside influence and personal agendas with decisions being manipulated by individual councillors using the small bit of power they have to betray the local residents. It simply goes to show what calibre of person is involved in local politics these days and it has certainly cast a shadow over the community, even those who are not involved with providing a skate park for the youngsters. Cllr Pasley should be hanging his head in shame but I don't beleive he possesses that quality, along with many others he seems to be lacking. The man is a disgrace as are those few men and women who willingly supported his corrupt anti youth vendetta.”

“Daisy Bickley knew the facts about town green legislation. Many residents knew the facts. I have no doubt that the ward councillor knew the facts but yet still gave his support to the "Residents Group" who made the application. So again, why were the facts not shared with the small number of residents applying for town green status. Same people incidentally who seemed to not be in possession of the facts on the open air skatepark leading to them making inaccurate statements at a recent town council meeting. There are two common links. One is the ward councillor and two, this application was made at a crucial time (yet again) when the local authority was making a decision on whether to grant application for consent to a hard working group who did everything according to due process, yet the political system still failed them.
What is the point of having planning processes and consultations, if the local authority that created them and implement them, can elect not to abide by the results because of hidden agendas that are not disclosed to the public. Absolutely shameful goings on here in Portishead which sadly the local Conservative MP turns a blind eye to, as indeed do senior members of the Conservative Party outside the local area.”
