Swindon Town 1 Milton Keynes Dons 1. A Billy Paynter header has not been enough to hand Swindon Town the upper-hand against promotion-chasing MK Dons at the County Ground this afternoon.

Paynter edged Town in front against the run of play when evading his marker at the far post to head home an Anthony McNamee cross on 19 minutes.

The Dons took less than 10 minutes to level after Town goalkeeper Peter Brezovan failed to get enough purchase on an attempt to punch away a missile-like Jude Stirling throw into the six-yard box.

The loose ball fell kindly to wingman Jemal Johnson and his vicious effort goalwards was diverted into the net by striker Aaron Wilbraham.

Simon Cox was unlucky not to restore Town's slender advantage nine minutes before the break when seeing his close-range side-footed effort from close range hit goalkeeper Willy Gueret and rattle the crossbar following a lightning-quick counter-attack led by Hal-Robson-Kanu.

Kevin Ammankwaah forced a fine save out of Gueret with a rasping drive on the stroke of half-time, while Sean Morrison was also offered a half-chance with his head from a Robson-Kanu corner.

MK Dons' only other effort of note was flashed wide from the edge of the penalty area by midfielder Peter Leven following good link-up play by striker Sam Baldock.

Town boss Danny Wilson had dropped Jerel Ifil from the starting line-up to offer Morrison a rare chance, while Amankwaah was drafted in at full-back in place of the injured Jack Smith.

Lilian Nalis came into midfield to replace Lee Peacock, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a back injury.

Swindon Town (4-4-2): Brezovan; Amankwaah, Greer, Morrison, Vincent; Robson-Kanu, Nalis, Timlin, McNamee; Cox, Paynter. Subs not used: P Smith, Ifil, Marshall, Sturrock, Razak.

MK Dons (4-4-2): Gueret; Cummings, Stirling, O'Hanlon, Lewington; Johnson, Leven, Navarro, Chadwick; Baldock, Wilbraham. Subs not used: Abbey, Regan, Gerba, Belson, Powell.
