Bishop's Cleeve 1 Paulton Rovers 2: Paulton put the disappointment of last Saturday's 7-0 FA Cup defeat by Norwich City behind them to take a deserved three points from their visit to Bishop's Cleeve.

Bishop's Cleeve started strongly but Paulton's Kane Ingram and Ben Lacey created a good opening for Matt Cooper, whose shot was off target, before they went ahead in the 25th minute, when Ollie Price rose above the defence to head home a Rob Cousins free-kick.

A minute later Bishop's Cleeve were denied an equaliser when Kyle Phillips made a fine save to keep out a free-kick from Kevin Slack after James Tyrell had been penalised.

Lacey had a shot saved by Bishop's Cleeve goalkeeper Tom King, and Robbie Claridge was also unlucky not to extend Paulton's lead when he saw his far-post volley hit an upright.

The home side equalised on the stroke of half-time when a Gareth Hopkins header put Slack clear of the Rovers defence and he went on to beat Phillips.

Rovers regained the lead 12 minutes into the second period, with Cousins again the creator.

His free-kick was headed in by Claridge to make it 2-1, and Paulton held on from there.

Bishop's Cleeve went down to 10 men in the 69th minute when central defender John Routledge, who had been booked for a foul on Lacey, fouled Claridge to earn a second yellow card.
