Paulton Rovers set for further £70,000 cash windfall
Paulton Rovers are set to earn a further financial windfall after ITV confirmed they are to televise the FA Cup first-round clash with Norwich City at Winterfield Road.
An FA delegation passed the 2,000-capacity venue fit for purpose after an inspection of the ground yesterday and it was immediately announced that the game will be broadcast on Saturday, November 7 with a 12.45pm kick-off.
Zamaretto League Rovers were already set to bank around £30,000 from the visit of Paul Lambert's League One side and the decision to show the game live will add somewhere in the region of £70,000 to the coffers.
Paulton chairman David Bissex said: "It was a dream come true to draw Norwich out of the hat, but to get the game broadcast live on television as well has left me lost for words.
"It is going to be an unbelievable experience for everyone involved.
"We were always determined to get the game on at Winterfield Road.
"We have done fantastically well to get this far in the competition and of course it was tempting to get the game moved.
"We never could have dreamed of getting someone of Norwich's standing down here, but if you enter the competition, you have to do whatever you can to make sure that you play the ties on your home pitch, whatever the circumstances."
Paulton now have 10 days to organise the logistics of hosting a side five divisions above them in the football pyramid. Enquiries over the cost of a temporary 1,500-seat stand to bring the capacity up to around 3,500 are ongoing.
The club will also have to bring in temporary toilets, additional refreshment stands and arrange segregation in anticipation of entertaining close to 1,000 visiting supporters.
"There is a lot to do in the next week or so, but the management committee here is fantastic and we are well on top of what needs to be done," Bissex added.
The match will be all-ticket and details on how to purchase will be announced by the club on their official website –www.paultonroversafc.co.uk – later this week.
The club have asked supporters not to contact them until they can confirm the method by which tickets will be distributed.
A voucher system is being considered and early indications are that tickets will initially go on sale this Sunday.
"I don't really care about the result," Bissex added.
"The ideal scenario would be to get a draw, but in all honesty this one game is like our cup final.
"The lads have done fantastically well to get us this far and they have been rewarded for their efforts with a chance to show what they can do in front of a national television audience."
