I must thank the Bristol Evening Post for a great article on Paul Weller's visit to Longwell Green Sports Football Club.

Football is an important part of any young boy or girl's development giving them skills to be competitive, collaborative and most importantly have fun! I was one of the lucky awe-struck parents to meet Paul Weller on Sunday afternoon and found his company impeccable.

Paul could not have failed to noticed that football is a great community "bonder". All four pitches at the club were fully used that afternoon and there was a great atmosphere created by the children and enthusiastic parents.

The Post should congratulate itself on a job well done and it just shows again that football is a fantastic sport, giving enjoyment to communities of all age groups.

On a more serious note, my challenge to any local or national politician reading is why do clubs like ourselves continually struggle to obtain government and private business sponsorship? This money could be wisely invested in football which will grow stronger and fitter communities for the future?
