Park joins list of city sites to fly the green flag for quality
A REDFIELD park has been awarded prestigious Green Flag status for the first time.
Netham Park has been awarded the status, while Blaise Castle Estate, the Downs, Troopers Hill in St George, St Paul's Park and Ashton Court Estate have all retained their Green Flag status, demonstrating year-on-year high standards of care and management.
In being awarded the status, the park was recognised to have first rate facilities for leisure, social, sport and recreational activities.
In May, a new adventure playground was opened at the park, with traditional equipment such as swings, a roundabout and seesaws as well as new items including zip wires, a rope bridge, net climbing frame and pole.

Money for the project came from the council, the Government's Play Pathfinder Programme and Community at Heart, with children and residents having a say on what was provided.
Councillor Gary Hopkins, Bristol's cabinet member with responsibility for targeted improvements, said: "To have seven of our parks nationally recognised with a Green Flag Award is very encouraging. We have earned an enviable reputation for our continued, year on year improvement across the parks service.
"Initiatives such as the introduction of 'parkies' and better working partnerships with local communities mean we are well placed to deliver quality services in our parks.
"I'd like to say a big thank you to all the staff – and the many friends organisations who support our parks – for all their hard work throughout the year."
Parkies – or park keepers – are a new addition to Bristol's major parks and aim to protect against vandalism and encourage community safety.
A council recruiting drive followed a consultation around its Parks and Green Space Strategy, where members of the public identified having a "parkie" in their local park as a top priority.
Green Flag Awards and Green Heritage Awards are presented annually and recognise the best green spaces in the country.
Parks and green spaces are judged on their individual merits and suitability to the community.
In North Somerset, Uphill Hill in Weston-super-Mare and Abbots Pool in Abbots Leigh were given Green Flag status last year.
