Parents were a part of theatre
GOING back many years my sisters and I have many memories of the Bristol Hippodrome.
Our father was a stage door keeper and our mother was a cleaner and also a dresser for performers on stage.
I am in my seventies now but can remember sitting in dad's office on a high stool and meeting several stars and as a little girl being pushed in Cinderella's carriage around an iced stage.
My sister who is older than me remembers the big fire of the Hippodrome and as working as a machinist at Walsh & Co Tailoring, leaving her machine when someone told her the Hippodrome was on fire. Knowing dad was inside and running across the centre to be told by firemen she could not enter the building, but she said my dad is inside, and I also remember someone notifying dad saying they could see smoke and dad opened the stage doors to be blown back.
