The parents of 11-year-old Sam Riddall have paid tribute to their son who died after a hit and run collision in Bristol.

They said the 11-year-old from Westbury-on-Trym enjoyed playing football and had many friends.

His parents, Martin and Rachel Riddall, are devastated at their loss and described their son as 'loveable and hugely popular'.

Rachel Riddall said: "Sam was a sociable, loveable 11-year-old who enjoyed playing football. He had many friends and enjoyed life to the full."

The family said they would like to thank Sam's friends for their messages of support at this difficult time.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened along Eastfield Road, Westbury-on-Trym, at about 9.15pm on Friday.

The driver is described as a white woman, with long blonde hair and in her mid-thirties who was driving a white Ford Focus estate. It is believed she fled the scene on foot in the direction of Cote Lea Park, the road opposite where the collision happened.

Sam Riddall leaves behind three brothers aged five, nine and 14.

Anyone with any information should contact police in Bristol on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“RIP sam. I didn't know you but this is the second hit and run within a very short amount of time And i'm appalled that another young boy has lost his life due to someone else disgusting ways. I'm sorry, so sorry this happened. I will be thinking of you and your family.

Who ever did this needs to show some small form of human decency and bring herself forward.”

    “None-Ya, excellent point.

As the police haven't thought of this I have contacted them with your suggestion and also recommended they check the roadside CCTV cameras in the vicinity for any possible clues. They hadn't thought to check the car for fingerprints or DNA either.

They really appreciated this and have taken the investigation in a completely new direction, thanks to you.

You are not very bright, are you?

People like you are so busy trying to have a pop at the police that you don't see the stupidity of your statements!

Finally, my deepest sympathy to Sams family in this awful time. No one deserves this and I hope the person responsible does the decent thing and contacts the police before they get to them first.”
