Pair make the grade as football coaches
TWO volunteers who run football training sessions at a Pill school have passed their FA Level One coaching course.
PCSO Chea Scandrett and 17-year-old Alex Colston, of Portishead, have been helping run football training sessions at St Katherine's School for the past 10 months.
Both received their certificates this month and will now pass their new found skills on to youngsters at the weekly sessions.
The football sessions are led by Bristol City's "Football in the Community" scheme, supported by local PCSOs and members of the community.
PCSO Scandrett said: "We have been holding football training for boys and girls at St Katherine's School since September and it's been a real success so far, with more than 30 youngsters turning up each week and having a great time.
"Now we have the FA Level One coaching course under our belts we can support the Bristol City coaches a lot more.
"I am very proud of Alex for passing the course too, as football is something she is particularly interested in."
Alex added: "I am so pleased to have achieved this qualification.Working with the police on the St Katherine's football sessions is really fun and it's great for my CV."
Alex was one of 60 teenagers to take part in a young leaders camp in Taunton, where she learnt how to plan football sessions and was helped to understand what was expected of her as a football coach, what the standards of behaviour are and how she must be a role model for others.
The St Katherine's football sessions run every Wednesday between 5.45pm and 6.45pm during term time.
