PREVIEW: Bristol Rovers vs Bradford City

SKIPPER Matt Gill says he and his team-mates are determined to do their bit to take the heat off under-pressure manager Mark McGhee by getting a result against Bradford City tomorrow.

The Rovers boss has come under increasing pressure following Tuesday night's 4-0 defeat at Port Vale and has been publicly-backed by chairman Nick Higgs in recent days.

Gill, meanwhile, revealed yesterday that he and his team-mates have accepted responsibility for their part in what went wrong at Vale Park on Tuesday night.

He accepts that they owe McGhee, the supporters and everyone else associated with the club a much-improved performance when they entertain Bradford at the Memorial Stadium.

Gill, pictured, said: "Opportunities to redeem yourselves as a team come around thick and fast and we'll try and use Saturday as a way to put recent results to bed.

"We have not performed to the standard required or to one we know we are capable of. We've let ourselves down, we've let the manager down, and we've let everyone associated with the club down.

"We owe everyone a performance and a result and we are working hard to make that happen. We need to sort ourselves out because we know we are capable of doing a lot better.

"It is obviously a big game for us and one in which we all need to a lot better than we have in the last two away games.

"We're sticking together in a bid to be more resilient in our performances and we're quite prepared to take a win in any way we can get it. We want to turn it around for the supporters because it has been tough times for them during the 18 months I have been at the club."

Gill is expected to start his first game in over six weeks as an injury crisis described as "catastrophic" by McGhee on Tuesday worsened yesterday.

Defenders Tom Parkes is the latest to join David Clarkson and Joe Anyinsah on the treatment table, while Fabian Broghammer was omitted from training yesterday because of illness.

Gill, who returned from an lay-off due to recent knee injury as a second-half substitute at Vale Park, said: "It was good to be back."

He added: "I only had one training session under my belt.

"I didn't hesitate when asked if I was fit enough to be involved because we were a bit thin on the ground in terms of numbers.

"My knee felt fine and there has been no reaction since the game. With another good couple of days training, I'm looking forward to being involved if selected from the start on Saturday."

McGhee, meanwhile, explained the severity of the deepening injury crisis when asked about it at Rovers' Cribbs Causeway training HQ.

McGhee said: "I've counted nine outfield players certain to be available for selection.

"There is a further three that potentially have a chance of being fit. Beyond that we'd be looking at young players who have very little experience at senior level.

"Fabian is struggling with illness though, and Danny Woodards is suffering a fatigue reaction after playing two games in four days so soon after returning from six-months out of action.

"The good news for us is that Tom has not broken his ankle as we had initially feared.

"David Clarkson is also doubtful so we are in a very difficult situation with injuries and suspension, but we have to continue to work our way out of this difficult situation."
