ONLY three parks could be improved under the proposals for Bishopston, the smallest number for any of the green space plans.

But Bishopston is one of four areas that would see no land sold off, unlike most parts of the city included in the £87 million scheme.

A wide range of options have been put forward for St Andrew's Park, Redland Green and Cotham Gardens, many focused on making them more family-friendly.

The council has put forward a number of ideas for areas that could be upgraded when money raised from land sales is reinvested over the 20-year period of the project.

Although it won't have the money to fund them all, the authority wants residents to say which they would prefer.

Options for St Andrew's Park include a new bandstand in the centre.

The disused bowling green could be removed and replaced with a multi-use game area or a small area for skateboarding and BMX.

Permanent barbecue facilities and a picnic area could be introduced, the paddling pool could be moved closer to the playground and the cafe could also be expanded.

Redland Green could gain a "natural amphitheatre" on the slope, a mobile cafe and toilets in the bowling pavilion. A new kickabout area with fixed goalposts has also been suggested, along with solar lighting along the footpaths.

And traffic restrictions could be introduced in Redland Green Road to make it safer for pedestrians coming into the park.

Seats and picnic tables have previously been removed from Cotham Gardens due to antisocial behaviour problems.

The council is proposing a new picnic and barbecue area, along with a separate shelter for teenagers.

The children's play area could be expanded with outdoor table tennis tables, and a wild flower meadow could be added to the eastern corner of the park.

Spokeswoman Helen Hewitt said: "The plans give local people some suggested ideas of what the next 20 years could bring in terms of investment in our parks and land disposals.

"At this stage no decisions have been made."
