Barnardo’s shop manager Judith Swetman said: “We ran our first silent auction in 2011 and it was such a success that we immediately decided it should become an annual event.
“Previous years have included donations of signed football shirts and autobiographies, but we’re always surprised by some of the more unusual items.
“This year we’ve received all sorts of interesting gifts from Royal Doulton figurines, Victorian brass candlesticks and old smoking pipes, to African bead games and antique corkscrews and stoneware.
“Some have been checked by professionals so we’ll have a good idea of whether or not we’re being offered a fair price.
“Customers are welcome to view the display and then leave their written bids in the box provided.
“We are sincerely grateful for each and every donation – now we need to make the most of people’s generosity to raise as much money as possible to support vulnerable children.”
The Barnardo’s Henleaze shop is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and donations including good-quality clothes, books, toys and games, as well as offers of help from potential volunteers. Call 0117 962 2191 for more information.
