Olympic canoeing star wows students with gold medal
OLYMPIC gold medalist Ed McKeever met students during a visit to Mangotsfield School.
The sprint canoeist spoke to children, mainly Year 11 students, about the hard work needed to succeed in sport and proudly showed off the gold medal he won during London 2012.
Bath-born Ed, who was appointed MBE earlier this month for services to kayaking, struck gold on August 11 competing in the canoe sprint team men's 200m sprint.
Steve Gunning, from the school, said: "He explained that he had to train hard every day for many months each year to get to gold medal standard.

"He told us that the stroke rate needed to kayak 200m in 35 seconds was three per second. The students were fascinated by the Olympic gold medal and they were all surprised at how heavy if felt."
