Olympian guilty of being part of Bristol drugs gang
Former Olympic judo competitor James Waithe has been found guilty today at Bristol Crown Court of being part of a drugs gang which netted around £50 million.
Waithe has been found guilty of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
After 15 hours and 45 minutes' deliberation the jury in the trial of Waithe and Robert Brookes came back with verdicts for some but not all counts againsy them.
They also found Waithe not guilty of possessing an explosive substance, namely a stun grenade.
The jury found Brookes guilty of possessing a stun grenade, but not guilty of other firearms offences.
Brookes had previously admitted to conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, as had Craig Rodel, Grant Richmond, and Luke Downes.
The jury will return tomorrow morning to continue deliberating the remaining charges faced by Waithe.
