OLVESTON recorded their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over St Nicholas in a pulsating derby game in the Gloucestershire Division of the Bristol Under-18 Combination.

Saints had the better of the opening exchanges but good defending by Olveston's Jack Neale and Reece Jones ensured they weathered the storm well.

Olveston took the lead through Tom Brock's looping header and doubled their advantage when a shot from Josh Reed sailed over the Saints keeper and into the net.

Playing against the wind, Saints started the second half brightly and pulled a goal back when Craig Harding latched on to a through ball before finishing well.

And when Saints pulled level with a goal from James Axford, the writing appeared to be on the wall for Olveston.

But they battled gamely to snatch victory when Dan Bendall picked up the ball inside the opposition half before letting fly with a wonder strike that left the keeper with no chance.

Keeper James Smele made some good saves late on for Olveston as they hung on for that precious first win.

Mid-table Frampton YFC overcame Forest Green Rovers with a 6-1 victory in the only other game to survive the weather.

The Division A match between Cheddar Albion and Sartan United was abandoned on 45 minutes with the score 1-1.

The rest of the Division A fixtures and the whole Division I programme were washed out by the heavy weekend rain.
