Oldland Abbotonians edged through to the final of the League Cup by the tightest of margins as they pipped St Nicholas 5-4 on penalties.

On a pitch only just passed fit by excellent referee Ian Parsons, both teams settled down quickly and played good football. Saints had the wind in their favour in a goalless first half and enjoyed most of the possession.

Oldland came more into the game better after the break without creating any clear-cut chances and after 90 minutes, and no breakthrough from either side, the tie went into extra-time.

Both defences remained solid in the additional minutes and it was a great shame the outcome had to be decided in a shoot-out.

Oldland's opponents in the final will be Imperial Saints, who rattled in five goals during extra-time after a 2-2 draw against Frampton YFC to win 7-2.

Saints started the match slowly and found themselves trailing 2-0 after 20 minutes to two Stuart Maule goals.

Mitch Purnell cut the deficit by heading home from an acute angle following a Sam Downes cross and Purnell struck again to pull them level before the break.

The Frampton keeper failed to hold Mike Rimmer's excellent shot from the edge of the box and Purnell seized on the loose ball to slot home.

Saints didn't look back and extra-time goals from Dan Caswell (2), Lloyd Mitchell, Jack Luton and Liam Pike saw them through.

Keeper Ben Williams and Marcus Morgan played their part in a superb team effort.
