Thomas Duffin, who was known as Tom, came to England in 1954 with his brother Jim and they stayed in lodgings in York Road, with his brother John joining them a couple of years later.

Mr Duffin met his wife Joan at St Bonaventure's Social Club and married in 1963 at St Bonaventure's Church.

The family moved to Knowle 41 years ago and are still at the same address.

Tom had five children, Maggie, Nicola, Niecey and twins Richard and John.

He had 12 grandchildren, twins Laura and Carly, 23, twins Danielle and Hannah, 21, Eleanor, 19, Siobhan, 15, Molly, 14, Mairead, nine, Shannon, seven, Ciaran, seven, Connor, six, and Shae, one.

Mr Duffin's eldest daughter Maggie said: "Dad was really well known for his socialising and could be seen quite often on the dance floor with mum at many of the Irish dances in Bristol and Ireland."

He worked as a painter and decorator and was well known around Bristol.

Mr Duffin's funeral will be held on St Patrick's Day, on Wednesday, at Christ the King Church, Filwood Broadway, Knowle, at 11.30am with a requiem mass to follow on at Bristol South Cemetery and Crematorium.

A celebration of Mr Duffin's life will be held at Christ The King Catholic Club.
