North Wilts, the Chippenham-based bowls club, who were surprise winners of the Yetton Trophy in March, are on the title trail again after trouncing Nailsea 106-47 in the zone finals of the national women's inter-club championship.

Standing between the defending champions and a place in the last 16 are Taunton Deane, who disposed of Yeovil's spirited challenge 85-62, while MidGlos, who play at Brockworth, defeated Swindon Westlecot 87-61 and will take on Solihull in the next round on January 15.

Wiltshire's England star Graham Shadwell helped Yorkshire's Mark Walton to a confidence-boosting 14-8 win over top Scots Sandy Wotherspoon and David Peacock in the ninth round of the Hong Kong International Classic Pairs.

Shadwell and Walton followed that up with a scratchy 18-15 win over Singapore, to maintain their position at the top of their group league table and book their quarter-final place.

Hopes of the English women's pair of Wendy King and Pat Reynolds making the frame in the parallel women's event depend on them bagging a big win over Hong Kong Police today – and on Wales losing heavily to local team Sha Tin.

English women's inter-club championship (Yetton Trophy) (selected results) – zone finals: MidGlos bt Swindon Westlecot 87-61; Bridport bt East Dorset 95-64; North Wilts bt Nailsea 106-47; Taunton Deane bt Yeovil 85-62.
