North Somerset village could break from parish
The village of Claverham could be given an identity of its own as part of a review of parish boundaries across the northern half of North Somerset.
North Somerset Council has published draft recommendations to changes to the parish boundaries as part of the review, which started in February.
Suggestions were put forward to create a parish for Claverham.
The small village is included as part of Yatton but a new parish council could be created which would set its own council tax precept.
The idea for Claverham to become a separate parish from Yatton was raised in the parish plan questionnaire, which was put together by Yatton Parish Council last year and distributed to all homes across the two villages.
The recommendations will be considered further in the second part of the review, which is due to start next year.
Parish plan steering group member, Jean Watson, said: "The question of boundary changes was included in the parish plan questionnaire.
"Yatton and Claverham are two very different villages with different needs and issues.
"Some people were keen to see both remain under one parish, while others wanted Claverham to have more of an identity of its own."
The review has looked at every parish and town boundary across the whole of the northern sector of North Somerset.
The period for people to comment on the North Somerset draft proposals closes at noon on Tuesday, December 23.
