Nine Bristol hospital wards are closed to new patients to halt the spread of norovirus sickness bug. Five wards are closed at Bristol Royal Infirmary and three at Frenchay.

A ward at Southmead Hospital remains closed for deep cleaning. At the BRI, visiting is restricted to one hour a day. Other hospitals ask people to stick to usual visiting hours, but to stay away if they are also sick.

“I am in full agreement Tracey. There are many other bugs that are caused through Hospital Wards not cleansed to the standards of the MATRON.I THINK THEY WOULD THROW A FIT IF THEY RETURNED......SOAP & HOT WATER.Also dont wear nurses uniforms on buses, these should be CHANGED BEFORE LEAVING THE HOSPITAL.”

“I can understand how bugs get brought into hospitals. I work for a well known delivery firm and i am in Frenchay every day. They have a goods in bay but unless its marked Main stores they will not accept and we are sent all over the hospital and to many main areas with the packages.
A great number of courier drivers are on piece work and do not get sick pay so they will be in work regardless of how they feel so they will be leaving there bugs all over the packages which i believe germs can live for many hours.
I myself have gone into the stores many months ago and asked if they could take all my deliveries as my live in partner and son have been up all night with D and V and got told "nope we can not take them either take them back or just keep quiet". I had main theatre, 2 wards, breast care unit plus a few other places to go. This is not helping with bugs getting into the bristol hospitals as they are the only ones that do this procedure.”

“Tracey, you need to get your facts straight. Bristol hospitals are cleaned by house cleaners and the standards are very high. Norovirus is nothing to do with this, it is a virus that is rife in the community, particularly among the elderley in care homes, and is brought into hospitals when patients are admitted while not symptomatic.”

“How much longer are we going to allow this situation to carry on,these Hospital bugs were rarely heard of when our wards were cleaned by in house cleaner's,just another example of the failure of privatisation, the cleansing of Hospitals should not,and cannot be carried out as a way of making profits.”
