Nicholas Wanderers get back on track in goal bonanza
Hanham Minor League: Nicholas Wanderers Under-9s bounced back from their cup final defeat in style with a 10-1 aggregate Division A victory over visitors Keynsham Town.
Despite the determined manner with which their opponents kept going, Wanderers dominated and could easily have ended up with more goals.
Finley Boyce made a spectacular flying save to deny Keynsham before Callum Loughlin put Wanderers in front in game one and Liam Palmer made it 2-0 with a penalty after Jacob Backwell had been brought down inside the box.
Keynsham fought back valiantly but found defenders Sean Attiwell and Kurt Cameron in fine form.
Wanderers' pressure continued to tell and they went further ahead just before half-time with another Loughlin goal.
Man-of-the-match Loughlin completed his hat-trick after the break before Palmer set up Cameron for the fifth goal.
Gianni Porcaro was the hat-trick hero in the second game, with Zac Drew netting his first for the club and the lively Kyle Roberts scoring the goal of the game with a superb volley over the head of the Keynsham keeper in a 5-1 win.
Bradley Ind, Dan Whitley, Sam Haggett and captain Dan Tancock all played their part in the victory, while Keynsham's perseverance paid off with a consolation goal.
Under-11 Division C champions Broadwalk completed a fantastic season by beating Whitchurch B, the side they pipped to the title, in the League Cup final at Brislington.
A club spokesperson said: "The boys, their parents and coaches have produced so much hard work and they thoroughly deserve the success they have enjoyed."
Bromley Heath finished their Under-11 Division C season in style with a superb 5-3 win against Oldland Abbotonians.
Heath took the lead against the run of play when Mitch Brunning beat two defenders and the goalkeeper before slotting home and the same player made it 2-0 with a shot from outside the box.
Oldland hit back to level through Ashley Grice, who pounced to score during a goalmouth scramble, and Rob Bool's stunning free-kick. But their delight was short-lived as Daniel Smith snapped up a rebound when Brunning's free-kick was knocked away by the keeper to restore his side's lead.
Kyle Morrison made it 4-2 from a pinpoint left-wing cross from Harry Saunders and Jamie Dickinson chipped home Heath's fifth goal.
Oldland came back strongly to test Heath's man-of-the-match, keeper Jack Trapnell. They also struck the post twice and rocketed a shot just over the top before Ryan Langdon knocked in a free-kick to reduce the arrears.
Division D champions Thornbury Falcons ended their memorable season with a comfortable 8-0 victory over Ingleside.
Dan Worsley opened the scoring in the second minute with a precise shot into the corner of the net and Jordan Saxton doubled their lead by converting a corner from Sam Hussey.
Worsley soon got his second, a curling shot which left the keeper stranded, Arthur Severinsen collected a cross from winger Asher Budd to make it 4-0 and Kieron Bancroft added a well-taken fifth before the break.
Defenders Hussey and captain Ewan Sinclair pushed up front in the second half and a delighted Hussey opened his account for the season with the sixth goal, while fellow defender Josh Vokins netted twice to complete an emphatic win and ensure Falcons' goal difference finished on plus-180.
The victory capped a superb few days for the Thornbury side, who had beaten Hanham Athletic B 10-0 in their previous game, Harry Shipp leading the way with a hat-trick and Worsley (2), Severinsen (2), Budd, Phil Twinn and Bancroft adding the rest.
AEK Boco won 6-0 at Mangotsfield United A 6-0 in their penultimate Under-11 Division A game.
After creating several early chances, the breakthrough finally came when a fine pass by Bradley Wheadon set up Jack Green to score.
Just before half-time, striker Jack Robson doubled Boco's lead by poking the ball past the Mangotsfield keeper.
Robson scored again after the break, thanks to a fine assist from Josh Kellet-Butt, and further goals followed from Matty Everidge, Tommy Winstone (penalty) and Georgina Lacey, who smashed a great shot into the top corner of the net. Boco's defence of Luke Withey, Jack Madge, Tom Norley and Keaton Lacey ensured the Mangotsfield strikers were kept firmly at bay.
At the other end of the table, relegated Winterbourne United were unlucky to lose 1-0 against Warmley Rangers after producing their best performance of the season.
Warmley started strongly and Fraser Venables scraped the top of the bar before Warmley took the lead .
Winterbourne defended well and were unlucky not to level before the break when Tom Curnock went close with a good effort.
Bourne matched their lofty opponents throughout the second half but were indebted to Dan Kerton for keeping them in the contest with a good save. They almost equalised when Lewis Ford, Ross Sharpe and Ben Slade combined in the best move of the game to set up Ross Hood, but his well-struck shot came back off the inside of a post.
