New off-road duathlon will be a challenge
Bristol athletics shop Easy Runner is backing a new off-road duathlon event in the city.
The event, which will be staged at Ashton Court on Sunday, October 25, will comprise a 5k cross-country run followed by a 20k mountain bike ride and then another 5k run.
Easy Runner's Richard Ford said: "This will be completely off-road with various technical challenges facing riders.
"The event is already attracting interest from high profile athletes as well as club and novice athletes from across the country."

● Yate & District AC will be holding a Sprints and Hurdles Challenge at the Yate Outdoor Sports Complex next Sunday, September 6 (1pm).
The event will comprise sprints from 100m to 400m and the 70m, 75m, 80m, 100m, 110m, 300m and 400m hurdles. Races will be seeded on season's best times.

● Yate & District AC's Sam Dalgleish improved his personal best over 1,500m for the second time in a week at the British Milers' Club meeting in Birmingham.

● Bitton Road Runners' Nick Kane finished 49th (1:26.09) of 953 finishers in the Burnham Beeches half- marathon, while Bristol & West's Julia Belyavin was 143rd and 15th woman (1:35.30).
● Nailsea Running Club's Jeremy Furber was 259th (50:49) in the Torbay Regatta 10k road race.
● The organisers of the Oldbury Power Station 10-mile road race have warned that absolutely no entries will be accepted on the day for this year's event on Sunday, October 4.
Due to a number of strict security conditions at the event all runners must register in advance with the closing deadline set for Saturday, September 26.

● Yate runner Emily Fitzhugh won the women's 800m B race at the British Milers' Club meeting in Exeter, clocking a time of 2mins 22.37secs.
Clubmates Emma Journeaux and Kelly Leat were seventh (2:27.58) and eighth (2:31.06) respectively.
Results – men's 800 A: 5 Steve Gallienne (B&W) 1:57.93. G: 5 Dan Bagnall 2:22.41; 8 Steve Beardwell (Yate, U15s) 2:29.72. E: 5 Dabe Bedwell (B&W, M55) 2:11.04. F: 2 Kane Lee (Yate, U15s) 2:13.25. Women – 800 C: 2 Lauren Ellis (Yate, U15s) 2:31.78; 9 Ellie Parker (NSAC, U13) 2:46.42.
● Hyde Park in London will be the venue for the 2012 Olympic Triathlon and it was also where Ron White of Hogweed Trotters competed at the ITU World Championship Series.
He completed the three disciplines in 1hr 14mins 40secs, which placed him as clear winner of the veterans Over-55 age group.
His recent performances have meant that he has been selected for the British Triathlon team for the sprint distance at the European Championships, which will be held in Ireland in 2010.
