BEVERLEY New, who has become a PGA professional once more at her original club Lansdown where she is an honorary life member, makes her playing debut in the Women's PGA One Day Series at Little Aston on Monday.

The former Ladies European Tour winner, who then regained her amateur status is now getting up to date with the PGA programmes which have moved on substantially since she first joined in 1988.

She has attended interviews at The Belfry headquarters and has been tasked with completing two modules from the final year's training within the next 12 months to regain full status again.

Somerset and Gloucestershire will be among the favourites to win the EGU champion club tournament at Stoneham this weekend. Brickhampton Court include former county captain Nigel Thompson and current players Charlie McLean and Jake Phillips.

Gwen Spear and Jane Shapcott of Long Ashton finished fifth in the Plate Final of England Golf's PING Fourball Betterball Tournament at Gainsborough Golf Club with 38 points, two behind the winners. Shapcott also won a nearest the pin prize.

Somerset county development officer Paul Barrington, professional Sarah Burnell and Mendip Spring professional Pat Baker held a talent assessment day for 30 junior golfers at Mendip Spring on Sunday.

The Manor House Hotel and Golf Club is offering golfers the chance of driving racing cars on the nearby Castle Combe circuit where Ayton Senna, Nigel Mansell and David Coulthard once competed.
