A new landlord has taken charge of a Broomhill pub and has pledged that it will now be more family friendly.

Wayne Bowes has taken over at the Good Intent on Broomhill Road and has set about reinventing it.

He said that trouble at the pub had meant that families had stayed away in recent years.

But he wants people to know that it is now a safe place to drink and somewhere for the community to gather.

Last month the Bristol Evening Post reported how an ex-convict attacked the manager of the Good Intent back in May.

David Norman admitted assault at Bristol Magistrates' Court following the incident where he reportedly threatened to set fire to the pub before striking Peter Hinder on the head.

Mr Bowes said: "I want this to be a really nice community pub, where family friends and everyone can come along.

"It is just a case of reinventing it, which has been hard because of the history of the place.

"There has been a negative image with drug dealers and drug takers, but there is a nice core of people who come up here.

"It was about five per cent who killed it and gave the pub a bad reputation."

The new landlord said that he had brought pool and darts into the pub to create a different atmosphere

There is now a darts team and Mr Bowes has arranged poker nights.

Mr Bowes said he was determined to stick around at the pub and to make it work.

He said: "I like Bristol and have got a passion for this place.

"It needs the right stamp on it and I am here to do that.

"I want people to come back here.

"I want people from the wider community to know that we are here and that we are good and we are passionate about this pub."
