Somerset have extended head coach Andy Hurry's contract until 2012.

The former Royal Marine will now work with director of cricket Brian Rose, new captain Marcus Trescothick, chief executive Richard Gould and Academy director Jason Kerr for at least the next three seasons.

Departing skipper Justin Langer paid tribute to Hurry.

"It has been a privilege to work with Andy," said Langer.

"He has done a magnificent job in moulding the team."

Rose added: "Players these days like to join a club that is professionally led and we have a coaching staff that are very detailed in terms of the programmes they set out."

Hurry said: "I'm delighted to have been given the opportunity to keep moving the club forward.

"There has been a huge transition in the last four years, with Justin leading the team so well on the field and Brian Rose, Richard Gould, Jason Kerr and myself doing our bit off it.

"We have some good, young players coming into the fold and are always looking to recruit from outside as well, so I'm optimistic that the future is bright."

The announcement came after Somerset CCC ended their Championship season with a comfortable draw against Worcestershire at Taunton on Saturday.

Langer's men had gone into the final day still 88 adrift of Worcestershire's first innings 571 with only six second innings wickets left.

But they only lost four wickets on the final day as Zander de Bruyn (106) hit a maiden Championship hundred of the season and half-centuries for Craig Kieswetter (90), Ben Phillips (84) and Alfonso Thomas (54 not out) relieved any fear of a first home defeat of the campaign.

Former Somerset seamer Gareth Andrew finished with eight wickets in the match on his return to Taunton.

Somerset have completed their programme on 182 points and so must wait until Saturday to discover if either Nottinghamshire or Warwickshire overtake them to claim the prize money for finishing in second place in Division One.
