A new three-day show is about to be held in South Gloucestershire, with a drive-in screening of the hit movie Mamma Mia! among the highlights.

The event is planned for the August Bank Holiday weekend on a site near Thornbury.

Organisers Patrick Goodenough and Leigh Riddiford said the South Gloucestershire County Show would be one of the features of the summer, with arena events, show jumping, a funfair and farmers' market included in the programme. A Wild West show, craft fair, dog agility demonstrations and car show will also be among the attractions.

The site for the event is on 65 acres next to the recently reopened Oldown Country Park in Tockington.

Mr Goodenough said it would be a permanent showground that could also be used for other events at other times of the year.

He added: "The show will then run in to the Bank Holiday Monday, with a whole list of family events planned.

Full details of the programme are expected nearer the event but a ticket hotline has been set up on 07943 524834.
