New dance craze Harlem Shake set to be Gangnam Style of 2013

If aimless flailing and crotch thrusts are the only moves you can pull off on the dance floor, the latest craze to be taking the web by storm could be just for you.

The Harlem Shake – a new dance trend which has gone viral on YouTube – sees dancers shake their stuff anywhere and in any way they like.

No specific moves are required – each clip opens with one dancer gently bopping away to Baauer's ‘Harlem Shake’ before the bassline drops and the scene cuts to everyone in the room frantically throwing themselves around.

Baauer released their dance track last year but only now has it gone viral. Dozens of people from office workers to firemen have filmed themselves doing The Harlem Shake, which is tipped to be overtaking Gangnam Style, and each video is stranger and wilder than the last.

They’ve each pulled in hundreds of thousands of hits but it seems one clip – of staff at LA media company Maker Studios – is the favourite, with more than five million views:

A father and son have also shown off their Harlem Shake moves:

And an army edition is doing well in the popularity stakes – it has pulled in more than 81,000 hits since being uploaded on Sunday:
