New Bristol City signing Liam Kelly hopes to be able to make his debut against Leicester City at Ashton Gate tomorrow.

The 22-year-old midfielder travelled down from Kilmarnock to pen a three-and-a-half-year deal last night and is now awaiting international clearance.

Providing that can be obtained by midday today, he will be eligible to face Championship promotion hopefuls Leicester.

And Kelly cannot wait to embrace the challenge of helping the Robins pull clear of relegation trouble.

He said: "As long as all the paperwork is sorted, I'd love to be involved on Saturday against Leicester City.

"I heard about the club's interest a couple of weeks ago. Things have sped up in the last day or so and things have been sorted out with Kilmarnock for me to come down and sign.

"I've been following the results closely in recent weeks and things haven't been too far away really."

The deal that brings Kelly south could eventually be worth £200,000 and the Milton Keynes-born player is delighted to be back in England after a four-year stint in the Scottish Premier League.

He said: "I'm pleased to be signing for a fantastic club. I've been in England before with MK Dons, served my apprenticeship and then moved to Kilmarnock for four seasons.

"It's a big step to take (to come to Bristol City) but one I'm looking forward to. I can't wait to get going now and get training with the lads."

Asked about his style of play, the Scotland international explained: "I'm a box-to-box midfielder; hard-working and someone who wants to win.

"I want to help Bristol City achieve a good league position this season to build on next year."

“Mmmm .... the interview on BBC today was worrying!

Lots of shots of the gym equipment, due to the lack of substance, from Junior!”

    “city1982

    been saying this for YEARS.

saw lansdown jr's ''interview' on local tv today and can't say i was very impressed. is this how possible signings are being dealt with?

fortunately it looks like some movement is happening in the transfer market so we MAY get rid of some more dead wood.

but on the finances....losses on dealings so far - over 700K on fees. NOT good, but typical”

    “@Red_Emerson:

Morris is one of the lowest paid and only contracted until June so he would be easy to shift, possibly back to Scotland.Kilkenny's on about five times as much and has a a longer contract so that's a blocker.

I have a sneaky feeling McManus might stay but Wilson M & Bates will go, new signings permitting.Nyatanga is OOC in June so he could make the move downwards in ths window.

If we play with wing backs tomorrow I hope Edwards gets the call up and the team looks like this:

    .......................................GERKEN............................................

    ....................WILSON J.........CAREY.................MCMANUS.................

    EDWARDS...................KELLY............SKUSE..........................CUNNINGHAM..

    ......................................ANDERSON...................................

    .........................BALDOCK....................STEAD.....................

It sounds like Foster & Elliott are injured but Davies & Taylor will both make the bench along with Joe Bryan, so there is some cover there.

I hope to see at least two if not three signings in by next weekend including two centre backs inc McFadzean.”

“More importantly lets hope his hunger rubs off on some of the others. If someone can provide our decent forwards with service we might get a few 3-2s...”
