Photographs were projected on to the lift shaft of a Barton Hill block of flats to mark the launch of a community art group in Bristol.

Phoenix52 was set up by residents in Barton Hill, Lawrence Hill and The Dings.

Their first project was to take photos in and around the local community.

The group already includes artists, photographers, sculptors, musicians, a jeweller, a sound artist and performers, who are organising a range of creative events and activities in the area over the coming months.

In July they will hold a creative community festival in Netham Park.

Project manager Sally Reay said initial funding for Phoenix52 came from the Community at Heart project.

She said: "A feasibility study was carried out to see if there was any interest in setting up a community arts group last September and 15 to 20 people came forward.

"The response was fantastic.

"A lot of talented people live in the area and we are developing opportunities for them.

"The photo projection was their first project."

On March 14 there will be a community photographic workshop at the Wellspring Centre in Barton Hill showing people how to get the best out of their cameras.

Another project will involve local children making a giant Phoenix puppet.
