Neighbours challenge Bristol porn film maker
A man whose Bristol house is used to shoot pornographic films was confronted by his neighbours when they held a protest outside his home.
Residents of The Coppice in Bradley Stoke held up placards as they met in front of number 29, where James Edwards lives.
They were later joined by the town mayor, Robert Jones, who arrived to hear what both sides had to say.
Residents said they had resorted to the demonstration because their lives had become a misery as a result of Mr Edwards' activities but that the police and council officials had failed to take any action.
But Mr Edwards, who joined members of the press in taking photographs of the demonstration, said: "In my view I'm not doing anything illegal."
He also denied claims by other householders that prostitution was going on at his home, while defending their right to protest.
He said: "I think they have every right to object but we are not doing anything immoral."
His neighbours in the quiet cul-de-sac said they were fed up with a constant procession of women and men going to and from the house and claimed what was a family area had developed a poor reputation because of Mr Edwards' activities.
They have previously made complaints to the police, Home Office and South Gloucestershire Council, as well as drawing up a petition, but said nothing was being done to help them.
Mr Edwards, who produces adult films, agreed to sign an Acceptable Behaviour Contract - described by the Home Office as a voluntary agreement made between someone involved in anti-social behaviour and the police - more than two years ago after residents said his filming activities had spilled from the house into the garden when explicit scenes were being shot.
Police also issued an £80 fixed penalty notice on a woman who was urinating beside a lamp-post while being filmed.
Mr Edwards said: "There was one incident that happened about two-and-a-half years ago when a model did something she shouldn't have done and that was clearly wrong."
But he said the police had investigated allegations made and as far as he was aware, they had no issue with him.
Neighbour Fred Hillberg said: "We are ordinary citizens and peaceful people but we are just fed up with the situation and want something done about it."
Resident Linda Cornelius said: "Everything we have done so far has got us nowhere. I hope there is some way this can be stopped but I expect nothing will happen, despite our protest."
Mayor Mr Jones, of Bradley Stoke Town Council, said: "I had heard about some of the difficulties here before but I wasn't aware there was still a huge issue because no-one had approached me.
"No-one would like this on their doorstep but unless a law is being broken or there is an infringement, there's nothing we can do."
He assured residents that any anti-social behaviour or trading standards-related complaints would be investigated.
Police said there was insufficient evidence to support some accusations being made against Mr Edwards.

“If sex acts have taken place in view of local people/children, then this is totally unacceptable. I would think that if you were in an industry like this, a bit of consideration for your neighbours wouldn't go amiss!
Some of you may not agree with the protest, but why do you have to trivialise the feelings of those who are affected. If it upsets them, then they are entitled to complain, whether you happen to agree or not! I feel sure that certain behaviour etc gets your gander up, but not everyone would agree, does that make your grievance any less important to you? No.”

“It certainly seems to have titilated all those gagging-for-it curtain twitchers in Bradley Stoke, does it not? Oh how they wish they had but even a small part to play (with)!”

“Claire,
I'm afraid you've got it wrong again! If you read the article directly above, it says Mr Edwards said that 'an incident took place over 2 1/2 years ago' . It wasn't the papers that got it wrong, it was him that lied abbout the time it took place!. I know exactly when it happend, as I saw it! You totally missed the point that it happend in front of two young children - mine! I don't ever want them to see that sort of thing in the front garden in full view of everyone, until they are old enough to make their own choices. Would you be happy for your children to see it? You appear to have shot yourself in the foot by saying that I wouldn't know what was going on unless I was a punter! He does have them then doesn't he? Maybe I am a punter or maybe I know someone who is! You seem very concerned about Mr Edwards. How well do you know him?.Are you one of his many"physiotherapists"? If you do know him then you will know that all the residents claims are true!. You only have to look at the web site advertising his services. I laughed my head off. The picture doesn't really give a good impression of the real thing does it!. Perhaps he should borrow one of the zimmer frames from the elderly residents. He needs it more than they do! As for the Aston Martin, I've already got one thanks! Unless you know the man, I suggest you get your facts correct. Threatening people is a serious matter and I'm sure if it was one of your family, you would feel exactly the same as I do!”
