A TRUCK driver had a lucky escape after nearly plunging into the river Avon.

The concrete mixer came within inches of pitching into the New Cut close to Bedminster Bridge after colliding with a Renault Clio car. It veered into Cumberland Road, onto a pavement and came to rest with one wheel over the edge, resting on a twisted railing and bollard.

The incident happened at around 9.30am yesterday, on the Redcliffe side of the bridge.

Neither the truck driver nor the Clio driver were injured.

The road was shut for three hours.

“I make it two identical incidences in two days, what is going on? Were the same two drivers involved? Is it the Italian Job ~ cheap Bristol version?”
