IN reference to the Royal Navy man who wrote in saying shops should give him a discount because the Armed Forces give their lives daily.

I haven't seen the bodies of many – if any – sailors being driven through Wotton Bassett recently.

Richard Edwards,

Bristol.

“I was an infantryman for 6 years and know Royal Marines are part of the navy. In demanding forces personal should get discounts that sailor said they give their lives daily but not many sailors serving on ships do. He was just using the recent Afghan deaths - mostly Army - for his own ends, which I think is disgusting.”

“As civil servant working for one of the services does that mean I get a discount as well as I am helping people give their lives - no thought not?!....”

“Richard Edwards is obviously ignorant of the fact that the Royal Marines are part of the Royal Navy. Whilst I do not subscribe to the view that servicemen (of whom I was one for 34 years) should have shopping discounts, I find his attitude - and that of edwardtarr - places them squarely in the White Feather Brigade. Sad!”
