I'VE been thinking about the Christmas story and one thing puzzles me. Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem because it was the city of David. There was a census and everyone had to go to the city of their origins to be counted, right?

If Joseph's family came from Bethlehem surely he would have had relatives there? So why were they looking for a room at an inn? Why weren't they staying with relatives?
