THE Bristol Car Club has gained accreditation by a national charity that promotes car clubs across the UK.

The Easton-based group provides wheelchair accessible cars for hire, though they are not restricted for use by the disabled.

It is part of the not-for-profit Bristol Community Transport group, which operates a fleet of 29 vehicles, including minibuses for use by other not-for-profit organisations based in and around the city.

The majority of the fleet have been adapted to carry wheelchairs.

Jan Jones, chief executive of the BCT Group, said: "BCT operates Bristol Car Club in order to provide a flexible solution to those requiring a car on an occasional basis.

"We're delighted to have been granted full accreditation by CarPlus. We hope to be able to locate more of our car club vehicles around the city in the future."
