Warmley Rangers are celebrating this week after beating gallant Nicholas Wanderers 3-1 in the final of the Hanham Minor League Under-9 Cup at Fry Club, Keynsham.

Warmley were always in the driving seat after scoring two goals in the opeing four minutes of the first game.

Nathan Wilkes opened the scoring inside the first minute, with a helping hand from George Wilshire's deflection, before defender Matthew Emery's long-range effort doubled Warmley's advantage.

Wanderers reduced the arrears with a well-worked goal from Gianni Porcaro but their comeback hopes were scuppered just before half-time when Callum Birkinshaw's cross was turned in by Wilkes.

The second half saw chances at both ends, but good saves from the keepers prevented any more goals.

The second match began at a fast and furious pace with Wanderers striving hard to claw the two-goal deficit back, while Warren Forrest saw a free-kick blocked as Warmley searched for a breakthrough.

Rangers keeper Chris Archer and his opposite number Jacob Wardle produced some great saves as a tight and enjoyable contest ended goalless.

The Warmely squad, who are managed by Ian Clay and coached by Wes Goodhind and Andy Wilshire, were: Connor Blyth-Robbins, Mason Lewis, Henry Sherman, Louis Lacy, Chris Archer, Sam Clay, Freddie Flook, Callum Birkinshaw, Warren Forrest, Cory Goodhind, Nathan Wilkes, Alex Trowbridge, George Wilshire (capt), Jacob Trowbridge (capt), Jamie Box, Jack Baker, Matthew Emery and Owen Comley.

● Jack Ball scored a hat-trick as Bitton overcame local rivals AEK Boco 3-1 in the final of the Under-11 Cup at Brislington's Ironmound Lane ground.

It was sweet revenge for the winners, who had been on the receiving end of a 7-2 defeat against Boco at Under-10s level last season.
