Narraway: We may need to win all four

Luke Narraway says Gloucester must target wins in all of their last four league games to guarantee a top-two finish.

Despite Gloucester sitting top of the Guinness Premiership, the sides below them have games in hand.

Three of the four are away – at Worcester, Northampton and Wasps – making Narraway's target a tough prospect.

The situation is made even more difficult given Gloucester have not won an away game in 2009 in any competition, losing to Newcastle, Biarritz, Harlequins and Leicester since the turn of the year.

But in that time Dean Ryan's men have won all their league games at Kingsholm, losing only to Cardiff in the Heineken Cup.

Narraway said: "We're top of the league. I know we've played a game more than most but it's in our hands.

"If we carry on winning we sit top two in the Premiership and that's what we're targeting."

The top two brings with it a coveted home semi-final – against Leicester last season Gloucester became the only ever side to lose at home in the knockout stages.

But Narraway feels this Gloucester side, although not playing the flowing rugby of previous seasons, has leadership and experience in spades, forming a stiff back bone which was just not there in recent years.

"One thing that this team has been criticised for in the past is leadership," he said.

"If you look in the last six to eight weeks, we've had guys coming to the fore and expressing their views and leading the side.

"Myself, Azam, Rory Lawson and Delvey. To have all of those players on the field at the same time is brilliant.

"As captain you don't have to be talking all the time, you don't have to be leading all the time because you've got others around you."

Add to that leadership the small matter of 101 New Zealand caps between Greg Somerville and Carlos Spencer and a picture starts to build of a more robust Gloucester.

Narraway said: "They've been around (Somerville and Spencer).

"Obviously their views on rugby are a little bit different. But some of the things they've brought are invaluable.

"I see a little bit more of Greg than Carlos and some of the things he has us doing or expressing to us have been brilliant.

"I think he could turn into one of the best signings in the Premiership. Playing with him is almost like having an extra back rower."
