Steve Mundy snatched victory for the second week running with a superb 20-15-0 mixed bag in round 11 of the Roland Poole Monday Series fished at Bitterwell Lake.

The Alcove AC member fished a straight lead to the right hand side of the aerator, which is anchored at 45 metres off peg three and, by alternating between a bread and a banded 6mm pellet hook bait, he netted nine carp totalling 16-7-0 and 4-8-0 of quality skimmers.

He said: "We were competing against a cold easterly wind and there was no-one more surprised than me when I hooked into a small carp about an hour into the match.

"A second followed about 45 minutes later, and by the middle of the match I had caught four and was holding about 10lb of fish in my keepnet. It was after my fourth fish that the action died.

"I tried everything to revive the swim, but failed miserably and it wasn't until the last 45 minutes that I netted the fifth. The sixth carp came 15 minutes before time followed by a pair of 1lb skimmers and a three-pound common – right on the whistle."

Gary Etheridge came second overall and first in the silver fish category.

The Garbolino BVMG member weighed in a magnificent 16-4-0 of skimmers and roach and once again demonstrated why he is considered to be one of the top exponents of waggler fishing in the country.

He fished maggot at various depths and 35 metres off peg six, switching to a four-metre pole for the last half-hour and adding five big roach and bream to his net.

Norman Ferris finished in third place at peg five and was the only other competitor to weigh in a double-figure catch.

The Alcove AC rod poled maggot at eight metres off centre for skimmers and roach and caught his first carp halfway through the match. At the start of the last hour he came in to fish the far edge of a weed bed and latched on to a bonus three-pound common carp that boosted his total catch to 11-1-0.
