Mumford and Sons to Tour UK after Conquering America
ADVERTORIAL FEATURE
Fresh from topping the charts in the US, Mumford and Sons are returning to the UK for a victory lap tour which will see them play some of their biggest gigs yet.
With their sophomore album Babel having already shifted more than a million copies since its release in September, the West London folk-rockers are on top of the world at the moment.
Following a rapturously-received jaunt around the States, they'll return to home soil in November, kicking off the tour in Torquay on the 21st. The run then continues with dates in Portsmouth, Ipswich, Dundee, Carlisle, Llandudno, Newcastle, Glasgow, Birmingham, Nottingham, Cardiff and Manchester, before wrapping up with two huge shows at London O2 Arena. Mumford and Sons tickets have already proved hugely popular among gig-goers, with additional dates added to the tour due to popular demand.
Beating Bieber
Such is the group's popularity over the pond, they've even enjoyed the distinction of besting Justin Bieber on the charts. First week sales of Babel topped 600,000 in the States, easily trumping Bieber's Believe and Madonna's MDNA earlier in the year. Before long, Babel was recognised as the biggest-selling rock album since 2008, a marker of how big a deal the band's become. And the successes don't end there: they also clocked up eight million Spotify plays of Babel in its first week of release and scored a huge radio hit with the stirring 'I Will Wait'.
It's a far cry from their days as West London's best-kept live secret. Formed in 2006, it took until 2008 before they put out their debut EP Love Your Ground and the following year before they'd sign a major record deal. However, buoyed by critical praise and gaining word-of-mouth buzz due to near constant touring, they were soon crashing the charts with their debut album Sigh No More.
Show-stealing performances at festivals such as Glastonbury and T In The Park would follow, and the band even started their own travelling festival, Gentlemen of the Road, in 2012.
However, it was their success in the US that sealed their status as one of the modern era's most successful British acts. Once again making their name on the touring circuit, they were eventually nominated for a Grammy award, wowing an audience of millions watching the ceremony with a performance of their touching track 'The Cave'.
Touring the US on the Railroad Revival Tour – which involved travelling across the country on a train with assorted musicians – proved a fertile breeding ground for new material. And Babel hasn't disappointed with its winning mix of traditional folk and country influences and a decidedly modern arena rock sheen.
