Moy's all-round effort earns weekly award
BLAGDON'S Tom Moy has won the Evening Post Cricketer of the week award after an impressive all-round display on Saturday.
Moy, 26, came in at the fall of the first wicket to smash 13 fours and one six on the way to a knock of 100 off just 89 balls to help Blagdon to finish at 288-4 in their clash with Pucklechurch.
The seamer then turned the match when offered the ball in sweltering conditions by ending Pucklechurch's run chase with a devastating hat-trick to dismiss the last three batsmen to finish the day with bowling figures of 5-27 from 4.1 overs.
"Tom's century was an exceptional two hours of cricket," said Blagdon skipper Mark Bandalli. "We had to rest him up when Pucklechurch went into bat because he was exhausted. We gave him the ball towards the end because the game was in the balance and we had to knock a few over to make sure. He came up trumps for us."
The seam bowler is in his first season with the Bristol & District Division Two side after moving to the area from Norfolk and Bandelli added: "He has been a great player to pick up. We were a bit lucky in that he only came along because he was playing hockey with another of our lads with the Firebrands.
"He smashed 50 in a friendly game and has been relentless with the bat ever since.
"He's an exceptional cricketer who played at a higher level in Norfolk. We're just absolutely delighted to have him."
