Motocross fans have a double date on Sunday and Monday at Leighton in mid-Somerset, where the Frome club are staging rounds of the National Open, Under-21, Ladies and Quadracer Championships plus races for clubman status sidecar crews.

Sunday's action takes in two ladies', two quadracer and two sidecar events, while the main events on Monday are the Open and Under-21 races.

New Forest teenager Kristian Whatley comes to the Somerset venue with a 14-point lead over Carl Nunn in the race for the Open title, with just seven points separating Neville Bradshaw, Brad Anderson, last year's Under-21 champion Alex Snow and Ireland's Martin Barr in the next few places.

Bristol's Joe Dark is fifth in the Under-21 series but needs to score heavily in both races to close the gap on Scott Elderfield, Graeme Irwin, Sean Carless and Richard Sandberg.

The quads will race over a shorter circuit and shoulder-to-shoulder action between John Mitchell, Joe Maessen, Paul Winrow and William Waggott is on the cards.

Bristol grass racers John Weeks and Rod Melksham are contesting the SWEGA's South West Centre meeting at Plymtree, near Cullompton, on Monday where they face John Jefferies, Harland Cook, Lewis Leah and Rory Caveill.

The Kingswood club are staging their annual charity trial near Iron Acton on Monday. On this occasion it is for Leukaemia Research. The organisers are hoping for staunch support from all Wessex Centre club competitors, and prizes for the various raffles will be most welcome.

Ten-times South West Centre champion Joe Baker is back on the trials scene in the Lyn Club's National Traders Trophy event at Parracombe in North Devon on Sunday. He has not competed in an event since switching to Enduros at the end of last year but may still be more than a match for more than 70 rivals, including Rob and George Pollard, Ben Bramwell and Ricky Wiggins.

Owing to a lack of entries, the Torridge club's Nell and Ron Higgins Cup Trial at Hartland in North Devon tomorrow has been cancelled.
