The fact that Lechlade did not fish to its normally high standard during October was not surprising considering it was closed for two months during the summer period.

Even so, 363 fishermen still managed to catch 281 high quality trout. The biggest was an 11-5-0 rainbow caught by Mike Weaver, from Leominster.

Dale Wright, from Hereford, captured three huge fish weighing between 8-8-0 and 10-0-0, but without doubt, the top catch was taken by Mr Morey, from Swindon, who bagged up on a double ticket with 10 trout weighing between 5 and 8lbs.

At Bushyleaze there was a definite improvement over the previous month as 595 fishermen weighed-in a superb 1903 trout. Mr Gayer, from Kidlington, had the largest rainbow of 6-0-0, while Mr Brown, a newcomer to the sport, landed a superbly conditioned 4lb brown trout during tuition.

Fishery owner, Tim Small said: "I don't want to tempt providence but despite the rain and chilly nights that came with the start of November – everyone has been bagging up on both lakes."
